In Turin , 51 years old Italian neurosurgeon Dr. Sergio Canavero claimed that he will be doing the first human head transplant. Head transplant has been performed on animals already from dogs to monkeys but they all have died shortly after the transplant.
A 31-year-old Russian programmer Valery Spiridonov who’s suffering from Werdnig–Hoffman disease has volunteered to offer his head for the experiment. The donor is to be chosen by screening for similar height, build, and immuno type.
The surgery will take place in Habrin , China with the assistance of Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Medical University who will provide medical facility and Personal.
China has been doing the same types of research for almost couple decades . Xiaoping Ren who is a Harbin based doctor, also running similar experiments for decades on mice and also china is less strict with rules compare to western countries. Possibly this was another reason Dr. Canavero chose china for his mega event.
If all goes well, within this year surgery will be performed.
