WHAT IS BEARING:
It is a device which enables rotational and linear motion of a machine in a surface. It reduces friction between moving parts of any machine and also handles the stress in the machinery parts.
The term “bearing” is derived from the verb “to bear” a bearing being a machine element that allows one part to bear another .
Reduction of friction in any moving part is important for machine efficiency ,to reduce wear and to facilitate extended use at high speeds and to avoid overheating and premature failure of the bearing. A bearing can reduce friction by virtue of its shape, by its material, or by introducing and containing a fluid between surfaces or by separating the surfaces with an electromagnetic field.
Before designing a bearing we must need to know what kind of load we are going to apply on the bearing. 2 specific type of loads are:
- Radial Load- It defines that the load is perpendicular to the axis of shaft.
- Axial Load- Here Axial load is parallel the to axis of shaft.
TYPES OF BEARING:
- PLAIN BEARING
2.ROLLING ELEMENT BEARING
- BALL BEARING
- ROLLER BEARING
3.JEWEL BEARING
4.FLUID BEARING
5.MAGNETIC BEARING
- FLEXURE BEARING
Mostly used bearings are ball bearing and roller bearing.
BALL BEARING CAN BE DIVIDED INTO 4 ANOTHER TYPES OF BEARING:
- DEEP GROOVE BEARING
- ANGULAR CONTACT BEARING
- SELF ALIGNING BEARING
- THRUST BEARING
ROLLER BEARING CAN ALSO BE DIVIDED INTO 4 ANOTHER TYPES OF BEARING:
- SPHERICAL BEARING
- TAPERED BEARING
- CYLINDRICAL BEARING
- NEEDLE BEARING.
